Marta's Monterosa Blog

I am passionate about the Alps. They are my heart's home and the place where I would like to spend the last day of my life. I have been a tourist in the village of Champoluc in the Italian Monterosa for all my life and worked as a tourist operator in this area since more than 15 years.

I believe in respect for the special environment of this place that you can find only here. We all gain by enjoying its beauty, while trying to make a minimum impact at the same time. Leave it for our children in the future!

I believe in respect for people who live here with their traditions and culture, language, and work, their genuine products and delicious wines. They open their homes for us, tourists and meet us as their guests, if we are able to open our hearts for them. I have a friend who is a hotel owner and he says that when stressed people from the city come to his place, he tells them to sit down and take a drink before they even begin to worry if they have a room. Perhaps, we can bring a little of their kindness and calmness with us on our way back to the city.

My philosophy is to give back a little of what the mountains and the people from this place have given to me and to my family through my work, to communicate my philosophy and my passion to those who follow me on the blog, and in my trips as a tour operator.

If you would like to visit Champoluc, Gressoney, Alagna or other villages in the Aosta Valley, trek or ski in the Monterosa, discover Sardinia or other places we offer, contact us.

Beauty, wine and a bad knee

The guests at this special place are stunned first by the incredible view opening all around, and they stand before the first stair to breath the vibrant air coming up to the terrace from the valley below and the mountains surrounding the refugio.

Guglielmina lies at 2880 meters and is known as the terrace of the Alps. Not only because of the view, but also for the sunny balcony that is welcoming all visitors of this legendary place.
The second motive to be stunned is the wooden lodge when you enter the door, where you could not imagine how warm and friendly and happy the feeling is. Due to the guests who relax with a chocolate or a glas of beer but even more to the people who work there: Alberto the owner is a big Italian guy you trust for his smile. His father Signor Franco, who smokes and makes jokes with all the ladies, especially the beautiful ones,

Francesco who serves you the most delicious wines always extremely professionally and knows how to enchant everybody with his green glimsing eyes, the 2 Nepalese kids who seems not to know how not to smile and run from early morning in all kinds of errands never tired or complaining.

Francesco

The third is only disclosed if you are a conossoir, and is that Guglielmina has the most perfectly furnished wine cellar of the Alps, considered the hight.

This time I could not reach the refuge by skis because I had injured my knee the same day. Jeez, what can I do? My 12 guests were already there! But the thing with Guglielmina is that there is no limit: call and they will help you always, if you are gentle and respectful of the special spirit of these places in the mountains. Alberto picks me up by scooter and there I sit, 2 days of cosiness and laughter, in the sun as well as in front of the fireplace between good friends in the evening.

I believe my guests this time have had their life's most special ski trip.
Thank you all, the knee was not so bad up there!
