Marta's Monterosa Blog

I am passionate about the Alps. They are my heart's home and the place where I would like to spend the last day of my life. I have been a tourist in the village of Champoluc in the Italian Monterosa for all my life and worked as a tourist operator in this area since more than 15 years.

I believe in respect for the special environment of this place that you can find only here. We all gain by enjoying its beauty, while trying to make a minimum impact at the same time. Leave it for our children in the future!

I believe in respect for people who live here with their traditions and culture, language, and work, their genuine products and delicious wines. They open their homes for us, tourists and meet us as their guests, if we are able to open our hearts for them. I have a friend who is a hotel owner and he says that when stressed people from the city come to his place, he tells them to sit down and take a drink before they even begin to worry if they have a room. Perhaps, we can bring a little of their kindness and calmness with us on our way back to the city.

My philosophy is to give back a little of what the mountains and the people from this place have given to me and to my family through my work, to communicate my philosophy and my passion to those who follow me on the blog, and in my trips as a tour operator.

If you would like to visit Champoluc, Gressoney, Alagna or other villages in the Aosta Valley, trek or ski in the Monterosa, discover Sardinia or other places we offer, contact us.

The Milky Way and The Ladies

Just for a change I was searching the stars in Sestriere and Sauze d'Oulx with some of my most beloved guests. The ski area that hosted the winter OS 2006 lies west of Torino and is called the Milky Way. 400 km of pists and 7 villages chained by the lifts between Sauze in Italy and Mongenevre in France.

It is another kind of mountains than Monterosa, less high and very white, therefor the name? I don't know. Beautiful anyway! This year the skiing was super with huge lots of snow. I wonder a bit how it is when it is a bad winter. Many English people for sure, which means happy hour!

It is all a little bit more urban than Monterosa, civilized kind of, people talk Italian and not the special dialect you hear in the valleys around Aosta. Everyone can speak english and many fluently. Italy is near in form of Torino, the food less interesting than I imagined, being this area in the wine and food district of Piemonte.

Henrik and the Möller & Partners seamedto be happy of the ancient houses we hired to lodge the group.

With the guys of Split, a Stockholm based event company of high range, we had a crowd of 70 from all over the world at the Hotel Principi di Piemonte in Sestriere, and they seemed enjoying the place, even if the plane was very late on the arrival!

No matter what! We continued in Sauze d'Oulx with my favorite IT people, the friends from Astrada. I really appreciate that they come back to my little travel agency, and that they are happy with my ideas, that I know are not only perfect all the time. One thing we have in common Me and Astrada folks, we believe in humility: we have all our limits and this is our strenght, paradoxically enough!

Thank you for your good humor and your friendship!

But what would this winter season have been without the Ladies?

Yes, my friends, we make a trip ONLY for ladies! And this year we were a huge amount of those: 16!, can you imagine? Women who decide to leave their families and their jobs for 4 whole days and who are so brave to chose to take a minute for themselves and their friends, despite the great pressure felt inside to get back and don't fool themselves with such ridiculous things like vacation...

But one after ski at the Belvedere in Champoluc, with the sun still high up in the sky and the fresh snow glittering all around their small glass of bombardino, this is even more unbearable to say no to. Even if you are a very busy woman of today!

Happy to see you next year again!
