Marta's Monterosa Blog

I am passionate about the Alps. They are my heart's home and the place where I would like to spend the last day of my life. I have been a tourist in the village of Champoluc in the Italian Monterosa for all my life and worked as a tourist operator in this area since more than 15 years.

I believe in respect for the special environment of this place that you can find only here. We all gain by enjoying its beauty, while trying to make a minimum impact at the same time. Leave it for our children in the future!

I believe in respect for people who live here with their traditions and culture, language, and work, their genuine products and delicious wines. They open their homes for us, tourists and meet us as their guests, if we are able to open our hearts for them. I have a friend who is a hotel owner and he says that when stressed people from the city come to his place, he tells them to sit down and take a drink before they even begin to worry if they have a room. Perhaps, we can bring a little of their kindness and calmness with us on our way back to the city.

My philosophy is to give back a little of what the mountains and the people from this place have given to me and to my family through my work, to communicate my philosophy and my passion to those who follow me on the blog, and in my trips as a tour operator.

If you would like to visit Champoluc, Gressoney, Alagna or other villages in the Aosta Valley, trek or ski in the Monterosa, discover Sardinia or other places we offer, contact us.

The new gondola from Champoluc is up and running

The new gondola from Champoluc is up and running

After 35 years of good and loyal service the historical gondola from Champoluc has been replaced with a modern, high-capacity one.

The winter seasons takes off with the new eight-post gondola from the Valley Station in Champoluc (1587 m) to the mountain station at Crest (1980 m). Crest is in turn a junction, for reaching the entire Monterosa ski, with the three resorts Champoluc, Gressoney and Alagna.

The new lift has a maximum carrying capacity of 2400 people per hour further increasing the effectiveness of the lift system.

The gondola, apart from being a ski lift, is an important link with the high-altitude villages of the municipality of Ayas, it is in fact classified as a part of the Local Public Transport system, operating eleven months a year from 7.30 to 23.00, making it easy for both permanently residents and visitors to reach their homes and lodging up on the mountain.

It is not only about rebuilding the actual lift. An important part of the 16 million euro project is the development of both the valley- and the mountain station. The project contains the construction of a multifunctional area in the valley station, where the ticket offices is located and the administrative offices, in addition to the departure of the plant itself; the entrance is located at street level, integrating in a better way with the village. And the position of the Mountain station, and the slightly longer lift itself, has alleviate the access to the next two lifts allowing space to develop the mid-mountain nursery area.

The Monterosa ski lifts are open from the beginning of December to mid April and the lift pass covers all of the lifts across three valleys, including several small resorts not lift-connected to the main domain. In the summer the same lifts are used by mountaineers, bikers and trekkers.

Read more about the project (in Italian) and see pictures from the work.
