Zermatt continues its run of good luck. Apart of being mentioned on the Lonely Planet’s Top10cities 2015 list, one of the hotels in Zermatt is now among the 10 best resorts place in the world.
The Grand Hotel Zermatterhof is among the top resorts on the list created by the renowned Condé Nast Traveler. It is both an Internet platform and a magazine, very popular in the United Kingdom. It reviews the best hotels, cities, islands, cruise lines, spa resorts, and more. Every year they conduct the survey among their users and ask to vote in the Readers’ Choice Awards.
With over 88,500 votes the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof is ranked the 7th, just after hotels in Ireland, Scotland and Greece. The hotel in Zermatt has undergone several alterations and renovations this year. The restaurant got a new design, rooms are larger, and there is also a new terrace.
The five-stars hotel was built in 1879 thanks to the village vicar, Josef Ruden who support the local families to take economic advantage of the tourism, developing in the region at that time, by building the hotel. People engaged in the project promised to work for free to avoid huge debts. In return they were granted usufructuary rights to the property, which actually continue today.
