I was extremely lucky meeting up with The Alps Crew in Champoluc the day after an amazing 1,5 metre of snow had fallen (that’s more than 5 feet in just one day!).
The first three mornings, I managed to get up quite early to enjoy amazing days of backcountry skiing with Pascal. I particularly enjoyed going all the way up to Indren for a run in the fresh powder and playing around in the forests of Punta Jolanda. Skiing with Passe was awesome since he knows the entire place like the back of his hand. I just tagged along and got to shred all the best spots of the mountain, big thanks Passe!
After some mandatory New Year’s celebrations resulting in a few lazy days with more relaxing at Campo Base than skiing, I was back on track again. Bartolomeus had gotten seriously tired of working at this point. He almost chopped his own finger off in order to get Agnes to take over so that he could ride with me the last couple of days. Now that’s true commitment.
So the last few days Barto joined In as well and we continued enjoying beautiful days of skiing in the sun. We managed to gather almost the entire crew one day for what may have been the best lunch of my life so far at Rifugio Ferraro, a super cosy little mountain hut owned by an Italian woman that had hiked all over The Himalayas. I filled up with as much polenta, salsiccia, cervo and spezzatino I could eat and topped it all off with a bombardino. Fabulous.
The food, huge amounts of snow, amazing skiing and friendly village of Champoluc will definitely have me coming back soon. I thank all of The Alps Crew: Marta, Pedro, Pascal, Bartolomeus, Agnes and Dennis from the bottom of my heart for a trip I’ll never forget!
