Gran Paradiso

Gran Paradiso in Italy was named one of the 6 classic beginner routes in the Alps along with Barre des Écrins and Breithorn, among others. Discover Gran Paradiso National Park with us and climb there!

BMC asked mountains guides about their favourite trails and peaks that are moderately easy to climb for beginners. Gran Paradiso was named as one of the easiest for someone who would like to start an adventure with climbing in the Alps.

“The highest independent peak in Italy offers a fantastic panorama of the Mont Blanc Massif, Gran Combin, Valais Alps and the Monte Rosa Massif from its summit”,
says Stuart Macdonald,
“Overall, this is one of the simpler 4000m peaks, requiring very good fitness combined with basic ropework and glacier skills”.

Gran Paradiso is in the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park, the oldest Italian national park where the Alta Via n 2 trail goes through. The Alta Via n 2 is an extremely well prepared and marked trail, going through the whole Southern side of the Aosta Valley, for more than 150km, from Courmayeur to Donnas.
