The Alta Via n 2 is an extremely well prepared and marked trail, going through the whole Southern side of the Aosta Valley, for more than 150km, from Courmayeur to Donnas. It goes in the heart of the first Italian National Park, Gran Paradiso, dominated by peaks of the giant mountain by the same name. The wilderness of this area makes us able to encounter with majestic ibex, chamois and other animals of the Alps. The atmosphere up in high mountain huts, where you meet with alpinists from all over the world, is of total awareness of life's wonder. If there is a god, he/she/they are probably nearer up here.

Alta Via 2 hotel Cogne
Day One. Start at Milan airport. Transfer to Valgrisenche. Meet with the guide followed by hiking to the rifugio Chalet de L’Epée (2370m), where we stay for the first night.

Day Two. Start with breakfast at the rifugio and go for a long, very wild trek to the splendid Col Fenetre at 2840m, to continue down to Rhêmes-Notre-Dame. First time we see the Park’s animals as ibex and eagles and for sure lots of marmots! The view is astounding from here. We stay in a small hotel in Rhemes for the night.
Gran Paradiso National Park
Day Three. Now we are in the heart of the Park of the Gran Paradiso, with its beautiful white peaks in front of us. After breakfast we start the trek to one of the two highest passes of the trip, the Col de l’Entrelor at 3007m. This is a very long trek and it requires a lot of physical preparation to be able to go on to next day’s tour. A possibility is to stay for two nights in the final town of Eaux Rousses to recover. Night spent in a small hotel in the village.

Day Four. This is another very long, but extremely spectacular trekking day. The tour goes on and reaches the middle of the Gran Paradiso range through the highest pass of the Alta Via 2 and also 1, the Col Loson at no less than 3299m and the wildest part of the tour is beneath our feet. The white peaks and the high passes have a special challenge and fascination: we feel overwhelmed by our own smallness. Today we will be staying for the night at one of the nicest rifugios in this area, the Rifugio Sella, at 2584m.
Alta Via 2 Gran Paradiso
Day Five. Very short, if compared with the past two days, is this trek down to the beautiful town of Cogne. This could also be the end of the trek for this time, and we should be satisfied. There is one of the most fabulous hotels in the whole Aosta Valley here, the Bellevue, with an art collection of great importance and the most refined genuine local food and atmosphere. We stay definitely here for the night!

Day Six. It is going on the trek to Champorcher, visiting the second natural Park of the area, the Mont Avic, or departure day. Then it is time for us to catch the transfer to the airport and fly home.
